During my pursuit of a master’s degree, I delved into the realm of 3D printing, which became an integral part of my research in materiality studies. To facilitate my experiments, I embarked on a journey of trial and error to create specialized tools for various 3D printing machines. The result of this endeavor is the tooling featured below, designed to seamlessly attach my ceramic extruder to both the Creality Ender 3 and the ABB robotic arm. This design process involved a careful consideration of factors such as tool strength, functionality, adaptability and precise measurement. Utilizing a segmented printing approach allowed me to enhance the durability of the PLA tool intended for the Ender 3, while strategically orienting the grain in different directions enabled a secure attachment to the printer, effectively supporting my extruder loaded with ceramic material.
