Arts organization, FIGMENT, hosts an annual architectural competition called, “The City of Dreams Pavilion Design Competition.” This program invites designers to create an efficient and sustainable temporary architectural pavilion. The designated site is an open area of Roosevelt Island that is flooded with sunlight. My goal was to create a pavilion that would provide shade, while also letting in some of the natural light. The space is suitable for up to 40 people, and utilizing solar radiation analysis I optimized the final shape of the pavilion. The design was conceived by using Grasshopper to allow for quick modifications. Utilizing Galapagos in Grasshopper, I was able to optimize the overall shape and facade to achieve cost savings and sufficient solar protection for guests.
